Draft Counter ("we," "our," or "the site") is a free online word and character counting tool. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, how it's used, and the choices available to you. By using Draft Counter, you agree to the practices described here.
The text you enter into the counter — whether typed, pasted, or extracted from an uploaded file — is processed entirely in your own browser. It is not uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any server we operate. Uploaded files (.txt, .docx, PDF) are read and converted to text locally using in-browser code; the file itself never leaves your device. If you turn on the Autosave feature, your text is saved locally in your browser's storage (localStorage) on your own device only, so that it's still there if you close the tab and come back. Turning Autosave off, or clearing your browser data, removes it. We have no access to this saved text and cannot retrieve it for you.
Draft Counter itself does not set tracking cookies. However, this site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense, and third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
This site is monetized in part through Google AdSense, which places ads based on a combination of site content and, where permitted, visitor interests. We do not control the specific ads shown to any individual visitor. If you have concerns about a specific ad, you can report it directly through the ad's "Ad Choices" icon, where available.
We may use standard web analytics tools to understand aggregate traffic patterns, such as how many people visit the site and which pages are most used. This data is anonymized and aggregated, and is not used to identify individual visitors.
Draft Counter is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Depending on your location, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data collected about you. Because Draft Counter does not collect or store your writing on our servers, and because any locally saved text lives only in your own browser, there is generally nothing on our end to retrieve or delete beyond what advertising partners independently collect through cookies — for which the opt-out links above apply.
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
Questions about this policy can be directed to the contact information listed on the site's homepage or footer.
